If you’re looking for a serious party holiday this summer – the kind where you party in the clubs until dawn, before sleeping late and rousing in the afternoon to doze by the pool – then there are two destinations you need to consider.
The first is the traditional party capital of Europe: Ibiza. The other is the pretender to the throne: Ayia Napa – but which one should you choose?
Cost
The cost of accommodation, food and drink is similar between the two destinations, but club entry in Ayia Napa is significantly cheaper than in Ibiza where it can occasionally be fairly extortionate for some of the bigger clubs. You may get what you pay for, but at the same time, there is no point investing in a false economy if you can cut costs and still have a good time.
Clubs
While the clubs in Ibiza may be more expensive, there’s no doubting they have bigger names and more established brands. If you’re looking for a fresher edge with something a little less mainstream, Ayia Napa may be right for you, but you’re likely to find more guarantees of high-calibre acts at Ibiza.
Music
Ibiza boasts a huge variety of music, catering for all tastes. It’s mostly dance orientated, of course, but within that, there is lots of scope. Ayia Napa made its name as a home for UK Garage and while this is changing, it’s fair to say the choice is more limited.
Location
In terms of location, both of these party capitals offer brilliant places from which to explore. For those journeying to Ayia Napa, the landscapes of Cyprus are on your doorstep and you could always combine a stay at the resort with Paphos holidays. For Ibiza, the wonders of Spain are just as enticing and as the third largest of the Balearic Islands, you’ll find easy access to other members of this archipelago – namely Majorca, Minorca (Menorca) and Formentera.
Making your decision
In short, the decision between Ayia Napa and Ibiza for party holidays really depends on what you’re looking for. Each destination offers a lot of choice in terms of partying and enjoying yourself and you’ll need to consider what’s on offer in each location thoroughly before making your final decision.
